Compare (expected) UK child population in 2035 to that in 1971.

Scotland = 44% lower, Wales = 30% lower, Northern Ireland = 34% lower & England 16% lower

It’s clear the government should restrict the use of supported accommodation for 16 & 17 year olds. The question isn’t whether change is needed, it’s when will it be feasible given the current lack of suitable alternatives. Govn should set a target?

By 2029/29 there is expected to be a £6bn gap between levels of SEND spending and the funding available. And councils’ cumulative SEND deficits will be £14 bn.

I put little store in modest changes in labour market stats at the moment but, FWIW ,the new NEETs stats are out and the numbers are up.

12.8% of 16-24s & 15% of 18-24s are now not learning or earning.

I don’t think anything has quite got to me as much as the testimony of children who have been locked up due to concerns about their welfare: the subject of this podcast.
