The full name of the award is the Lynden "Committed Through the Last Mile" Red Lantern Award. The team who wins it has, by definition, been out there longer than anyone else. And they've known for a long time - maybe since the start - that they weren't running for prize money. Finishing last in the Iditarod is an amazing accomplishment in its own right: more people have climbed Everest than have finished an Iditarod. So it's right that the race's culture is that there are winners, but no losers. (All the dogs think they won, of course.)

But given that the US looks like a crumpled sheet in the middle of being ironed, I suspect the maximum population density may be a bit uneven!

My mum brought me back wool from a trip to Iceland in different shades from turquoise to petrol. I am knitting a bag to felt with it. Hopefully, I won't wreck it in the felting process!
