Maybe I had to leave the faith I inherited to actually grasp what it is to live under spirit instead of law. Ironic.

But I prefer to use my own eyes and ears to observe if something is producing life or death. Healing or destruction. Good fruit or bad.

I take no issue with people who do, and I recognize my values don’t come from a void.

It may be second nature to some people, but it’s a powerful thing to acknowledge to yourself what *actually* brings you joy.

I couldn’t tell you all the (probably thousands of) little shifts and expansions that happened to me during that journey.

But on the other side, I had a stronger sense of self.

After making my way through their entire discography, I slowly moved through the decades, finding more bands and artists to love.

If you made more than $200K in 1944 (~3.5 million today), every dollar earned above that was taxed at a 91% rate.

I have thought for a long time that once you make a certain [absurd] income—like in the millions—everything you earn above that should go to taxes.

Turns out there were tax brackets that sort of did that back then.
