Thanks to everyone who came to see Jaws at Genesis Cinema and listened to my intro. I talked about Spielberg's origins in New Hollywood of the 70s, how Jaws led to the rise of the blockbuster and other ways it impacted pop culture. The film on the big screen still plays like gangbusters.

Watched Sinners at the BFI IMAX with intro from Ryan Coogler and Ludwig Goranson and it's awesome! Kinda like if the first half of From Dusk til Dawn had been O Brother, Where Art Thou. There is a musical sequence in this that almost made me cry it was that good. A must-see in IMAX if you can.

An amazing day celebrating the collaboration of David Cronenberg and Howard Shore, starting at 10am with a screening of Crash, then Dead Ringers, then a career retrospective talk. It's been a long day but now all I want to do is rewatch all the other films.

Honoured to be a part of this book and write about the work of amazing Indigenous Australian filmmakers working in horror, in films such as Kaytetye director Warwick Thornton's The Darkside, anthology film Dark Place, and the short film The Moogai, directed by Jon Bell (Wiradjuri/Bundjalung/Yaegl)

None of this is a surprise. We hit the Maggie Cheung season at the BFI pretty hard (plus I watched some of her films for my World Cinema class) and I watched 9 Bunuel films in 2 weeks to prep my essay for the Bunuel boxset from @filmsradiance.bsky.social

I always watch this film on Christmas Eve. I love it so much, but I hate how relevant it is 50 years after it was made.

It's a running joke that I'm very serious and precise with wrapping gifts, as opposed to Liam's more relaxed approach. But I can now say, after 2 cocktails and Ennio's "help"*, my wrapping technique has significantly changed.
Here's Ennio for reference:

An excellent night at The Prince Charles Cinema to see KILL YOUR LOVER, a great indie that employs body horror to present a toxic relationship as mutual infection. Excellent performances gives a real sense of these characters and the changes they go through as love turns sour (and goopy).

Great to see some old school Jackie Chan tonight on the big screen at the #BFI tonight. That mall sequence at the end is still an all-timer (yes, I do want to see that slide down the pole repeated 3 times)
