This story about the end of the MercLab, a scrappy theater space on Fair Oaks that I first wrote about in 2009, was close to my heart. The artists know affordable housing is important, but this still feels like a loss. (in Madison via @captimes.com)

The thing I love about the Wisconsin Film Festival is it makes film feel like theater. More ephemeral, more of a one-time-only event. Can't wait to dig into this schedule! (via Josh Heath for @captimes.com)

On Tuesday, the cats had the best day of their lives: a bird flew in the back door.

We hollered and flailed with blankets and eventually got the little guy back out again. The cats went back to doing this (that's Sebastian, under a pillow).

But what a moment in time.

Five things most people don't know about editors and editing:

(1) The job of "editor" is really something like thirty different jobs rolled into one—not just revising, copy editing, and proofreading but developing ideas, mentoring talent, promoting pieces, etc. And nobody is good at all the jobs.
Becca Rothfeld on editing as an underappreciated art. I have a great many thoughts on this... but I'm too busy editing at the moment to share them!
