It was spooky season, so we tried out a friend's copy of Warhammer Quest: Cursed City.

It really does need to be the leading story that one of the municipal liasions between the Nat'l Weather Service and local officials had taken the early retirement package offered by DOGE. I hope this disaster is the kind of "government efficiencies" they were hoping to achieve. Fuck Elon and Trump.

I guess that one Norwegian artist got the positions right in the painting after all. (Although time may yet tell.) #politics

TFW you push the notification for the new version but you forget to update any of the fields. Maybe Notion AI was in charge?

Battletech Alpha Strike! We made up a scenario where I had to evac the CFO from one of the buildings after the mercs showed up to take him out. After the building he was in got destroyed, he evacuated to a wheeled assault gun and managed to get picked up by the attack helicopter and escape!

Timeline cleanse: I'm thrilled that the pair of robins who raised these adorable hatchlings have returned to the same tree this year! (That or we have some interlopers, haha.) They're over a month late compared to when they were nesting last year, but I hope we get some more babies soon.

Second time ever playing Runewars (2010), but I love how it's a combination of adventure, war, and 4x games. Scratches the fantasy TI itch pretty well.

Something spooky to curl up with on a stormy Friday evening: the new Cthulhu by Gaslight Keeper's Guide! I did not expect this to show up within 48 hours of ordering from Chaosium's website, but apparently this shipped from Brainerd, MN, just a few hours north of us.

A friend hosted a "full Irish breakfast" for fun yesterday, so I got to try out recipes for Guinness Brown Bread and Guinness Chocolate Cake with Bailey's Irish Buttercream frosting.

Investigating some cosmic horror in 1925 Berlin to escape the daily loss of sanity in real life. #CallofCthulhu

Learning some Warhammer: The Old World by crashing some High Elves into the Empire of Man. This might become our new go-to minis game.

Saturday afternoon was spent playing the Legend of the Five Rings RPG (the one I worked on, the FFG edition with custom dice)! I so rarely get to play this one, instead always running it, so I jumped at the chance to sit on the other side of the screen in a condensed rendition of "Imperfect Land."

On Saturday morning, I started off the day with some Old Gods of Appalachia. The setting was fantastic (I'm not familiar with the podcast, tho I am fairly familiar with the genre), but I think personally I'd want to try running it using the new Arkham Horror RPG/Dynamic Pool System.

Later that evening, the husband and I got to try out Lords of Vegas after many years of trying to find a copy. His luck was amazing (fitting, I suppose, since it was his birthday), and he cleaned us all out through the gambling mechanic. Would definitely give this another go.

My first game on Friday was a Dungeon Crawl Classics peasant funnel (always a good time), set in the megadungeon of Castle Drachenfels, "where high-level WFRP characters go to die." The GM was fantastic, and we had a fairly good survival rate of about 50%.

Forgot to post these over the weekend, but we had an epic game of Twilight Imperium 4th edition with 7 players and the faction-specific flagships produced by CMON! @feonix.bsky.social pulled out a tricky win despite her fleet getting rocked by a gravity rift early on.

Got to break out Adeptus Titanicus for the first time in years.

Played Distilled for the first time over the weekend. Really enjoyed myself, but I did not appreciate the reminder that I'm getting old: the card text was a challenge to read, even sitting as close together as we were!

I kept track of all the games I played this year, and it comes out to 34 RPG sessions in 2024! Here are some of the games I played. D&D was the game I got to the table most (as player & DM), comprising 38% of all sessions, with Midnight coming in second at 24%.

On our way home from Vienna, flying over the far northeastern edge of Canada, we caught some pretty incredible northern lights.
