Still don't know what I want to do when I'm grown up.

In the meantime, I write (mostly short stories, flash fiction & unfinished novels), draw, paint, take photos, garden, daydream and dance when nobody's watching.

📍North West England
Trying - and failing - to capture the magical moment on a stormy day when a brief burst of sunlight lit up the last of this silver birch tree's #bright yellow leaves before the wind blew them away.

It may technically be 24 hours long, but when you have to put the light on mid-afternoon because it's so dark outside, a #November day feels so short!

Amazing how a #BookPost can brighten an otherwise cold, dark and very wet day.

Thank you, @uncertainstories.com 10 out of 10 for your packaging skills - and the freebies.
Love the design of your Broken Ground anthology. I think I'll be reading it very s-l-o-w-l-y to make it last!

My fuchsias have put on a fantastic display this year. Hoping they'll survive the winter, but taken some cuttings to keep indoors just in case 🤞

The theme of today's #BlueSkyArtShow is #Inside so here's a sketch of the view from inside my house when the washing line in my back garden is full.
Plenty of wind to dry the washing today, but too cold to do any gardening out there! 🥶

Couldn't resist buying this Michaelmas daisy plant at the market last week. Love that shade of purple!

All I have to do now is find a space in the garden for it 🤔

And still the roses come!

My #DavidAustin roses - Roald Dahl and The Lady Gardener have bloomed all summer and are still producing new buds. Love them!

Still a little bit of summer in the garden.

Unless you're British 😉

Don't worry, I am British but still have to look it up.

Of course I follow my grandmother's recipe for traditional Welsh cakes - except I substitute her lard for #vegetarian spread, use half white, half wholemeal flour instead of all white, swap white sugar for demerara (and less of it), and add 2 handfuls of sultanas instead of one.

I'm sure the spider didn't choose to spin a web here in order to help the Perennial Pea plant grow higher, and the pea had no idea the spider would use its flowers as a comfortable hiding place while it waited to trap its dinner, but here they are living happily and helpfully together.

One image to fit the #summer theme for today's #BlueSkyArtShow ?

How about this #pastel painting of some lilac?

Only wish I could learn to paint the gorgeous scent!

Proof of my kindness to slugs. Here are two exploring their forever home.
(Well it will be forever if they have the sense to stay there!)

Just to clarify ...

My 75 words that were published on www.paragraphplanet.com yesterday told a purely fictional story. I do not poison, squash or throw away the slugs in my garden. They are gently relocated to my nature reserve - the uncultivated patch behind the shed.

Here's something to brighten up a dull, wet Monday.
Already imagining the colourful garden I'm going to have next year!

Weather just right for the beginning of St Anne's Kite Festival yesterday - breezy enough to keep kites aloft but warm sunshine, and the rain kept away!

Can anyone tell me what these #insects are in my garden? Some kind of #wasps or #hoverflies ? Have they made these holes, is there a nest of them underneath? Or are they predators hunting something else that lives there?

Even on a sunny Sunday in August it's possible to find an empty, free car park and quiet country footpaths in #Lancashire

Where have all the blackbirds gone?

My rowan tree has a bumper crop of berries but a lot have already been blown of by recent strong winds. In previous years blackbirds & starlings have feasted on them but garden is eerily quiet now.

Are berries earlier than usual? #ClimateChange?

Hoping a #Jagged hedge is OK for inclusion in this week's #BlueSkyArtShow.
Ten minute pencil sketch in car park while I was waiting for my husband, followed by a quick colouring in at home.
Love the cream and bright pink of the little terraced house - reminds me of raspberry ripple ice-cream!

Walking past my local community orchard during the dying gusts of #StormFloris I was alarmed by apples flying around me.

I usually leave the fruit for others to pick, but as these were landing at my feet it seemed rude not to rescue them.

Apple crumble for tea then!

When you neglect a few of the radishes you sowed last year, bumblebees get another source of nectar and you'll soon be able to harvest some free seeds for the next crop.

Spent a few moments enjoying this morning's barely there clouds and the scent of my neighbour's lilac ...

But now I must get to work!

First rose of the year.
I've been watching buds on the rose bushes in my front garden, wondering when they'll flower, and completely missed this beauty opening in the back.
Don't know variety, old bush planted by previous occupant, but flowers all summer and has a lovely scent.

Just started The Whale at the End of the World by @johnironmonger.bsky.social I've seen a lot of good things about the author's new novel, The Wager and the Bear, but decided to start with his first book set in the same fictional Cornish village. Enjoying it so far ...
