I don't understand their use of the word 'megatrend' to essentially stand in for crisis. Seems a bit of an attempt to no-biggy the severity of the polycrisis.

I swear twitter is hiding your posts, or has unfollowed you for me or something. I miss your dose of zen!

+ my 2 cents: a lot of very smart people have built themselves a silo of specialization and they need to climb out of it and seek out new, counter-systemic ideas to find their hope again.

The climate rankings developed in this climate report will be combined with rankings on issues like lobbying, tax, income inequality, etc. into an overall ranking for general public consumption. Here's the full climate report on COP28 sponsors covered by the Guardian:

Sponsors paid millions of dollars to essentially greenwash their brands through association with COP28, while also gaining VIP level access to government and civil society leaders.

EY (Ernst & Young) was hired to validate all of these sponsors through the COP28 sponsorship application process. They somehow approved Baker Hughes despite them being unable to even commit to a Science Based Target.

There's also a sponsorship committee involved. No one has shown their work.

Baker Hughes, a major US oil & gas servicing company isn't even eligible to sponsor COP28, based on COP28's own sponsorship criteria, because Science Based Targets does not have a standard against which the oil & gas industry can set targets or make commitments. Its a standard in development.

Just six COP28 sponsors have committed to setting net-zero targets with Science Based Targets. That's just a 1/4th of the corporate sponsors for COP28.
November 29, 2023 at 10:10 PM
Just one company, the Spanish company Iberdrola, has set net-zero targets with Science Based Targets, despite this being presented as a hurdle potential sponsors had to over come in order to gain sponsorship status.

That's one company out of about 24 corporate sponsors.

This is my corporate accountability startup's report being covered. Here's the full report, covering Climate Group program participation and SBTi commitments and targets. Would love any and all feedback, we're newish.

How finance became the problem
Finance has become the driving force behind most decision-making. We seem to have unlearned politics.

OK, Susan Strange (Mad Money) for anyone who hasn't read her. Piketty has a couple of really good chapters in Capital that deal with finance. Randall Germain, Stephanie Kelton (very macro MMT), Perry Mehrling, Katharina Pistor.

Climate action is explicitly about equity. If people are saying "we don't have time for equity" then they don't understand what's actually going on with the climate; The crisis is a manifestation of resource imbalance perpetuated by a system overtly designed to exacerbate these imbalances.

Do you mean positive change or just change in general? And specific to anything in particular, e.g., inequity, climate?
