@taiwantrailsandtales.com Hello! Do you think it's a good idea to visit Taiwan early May, heading towards higher elevations (eg: Lishan) as I can't stand the heat? I found the weather in the mountains (Alishan, Taroko gorge/national park) pleasant mid-November, but the days were very short.

Japanese shinkansens are great, but super expensive. French TGVs have many issues, but (depending on the timing) one can make a round-trip between Paris and Strasbourg for the price of a one-way ticket from Tokyo to Osaka. Distance and duration for both itineraries are similar.
