The mass firings threaten to take us back to an IRS that was struggling to function even a few years ago. Call wait times skyrocketed when Congress cut IRS’s funding from 2010-2022 and then fell dramatically when Congress restored IRS funding to its historic levels. 3/4

Mass layoffs at the IRS will increase deficits. Every $1 spent on the IRS reduces deficits by $6. The return is even higher when resources are focused on addressing evasion and avoidance by the most wealthy. 5/5
