You can still go to Xinjiang, I go every other year. Kashgar is one of my favourite cities in China.

Technically Socialist with Chinese Characteristics. But does China have some communist elements yeah maybe. Most see the name Communist Party of China and assume the country is communist, when it’s simply a name of a party in charge which does have communist ideologies

I’d recommend western provinces like Guizhou, Gansu, and Yunnan. Lots of farmers, herders, and laborers living simple lives amid mountains and poverty pockets, much like rural Appalachia or the Deep South in the USA. To a lessor degree we have small villages in my province where you may see this.

I live on an Island (Hainan) so we have less cameras than the mainland. On the mainland it’s not uncommon to have around 500 cameras per 1000 people. Which has its upside and downside.

Does Australia have a lot of CCTV cameras? My country has the most followed by the US and Germany and the UK. I see them as my guardian angel, makes it safe for me to walk solo anywhere anytime.

I live in Hainan and can help you out. The word Hainan (海南 simplified Chinese or in Pinyin, it’s Hǎinán) means “South of the Sea” south of the Qiongzhou Strait was its historical meaning.

The only socialist thing I feel is state owned enterprises (SOE) profits fund operations, dividends to the government and fund national priorities like infrastructure or R&D

I grew up being told that America is our competition, not enemy or adversary. It’s unfortunate so many in the US feel the way you do.
