At some national parks, like Joshua Tree and Death Valley, it's been hard to tell the government is shut down. While bathrooms are being cleaned and trash emptied, some say conservation work is being neglected.

My latest w/ Alex Wigglesworth on the front page of today's @latimes.com!

Someone *at the Natural History Museum* called me a nerd for wearing this tarantula shirt. That’s where my life’s at!

Say hi to Marilyn! Yes, she’s a blonde (desert tarantula).

God I love the library, where people still flip through hard copies of the LA Times. Passed by a table and saw my story — on national park workers unionizing — staring back at me! www.latimes.com/environment/...

New episode of my series, “AnimaLA” is live. It’s all about ground squirrels! Yes, they make holes in your garden. But did you know they do epic battle w/ rattlesnakes? And hunt voles when the opportunity is right? Check out the full video on YouTube: youtu.be/UF2dc2vk4bY?...

Catch me on A1 today!

Sierra Madre recorded 41 bear home invasions in June, triple the figure from last June. A bear linked to the break-ins was put down, but city officials say the stats indicate a broader problem.

My story on challenges facing LA wildfire victims who want to rebuild their homes with earthen materials made it to the front page of today’s @latimes.com! Can’t take credit for the great headline, though.

On the front page of today's LA Times: Alex Wigglesworth and I's deep dive into mysterious land sales within Joshua Tree National Park.

Several buyers have ties to the hotel industry.

Persian cats are known to be lap lovers, but Orson had an adventurous spirit. He loved to roam the yard and longed to go much, much farther. I hope where he is, there's endless fields to stalk and that he can still hear me calling him the best boy.

Last Wednesday, the world lost a blinding orange light and I lost my fur son. Orson passed away suddenly and unexpectedly and I'm still reeling. He was way too young but he lives on in my heart forever 🧡

Driving back the winds were fierce, there were downed trees on the freeway and debris flying. And sadly fires are raging — including the fire near Eaton Canyon in Altadena that I saw from the 210.
