They changed every single cell in his body. He looks and sounds the same but he’s fundamentally a completely different person. And how cool would it be if Grian was terrified of being along after Evo? Since the watchers grabbed him while he was alone battling the dragon

Knowing that at this rate, his body would be long dead without the watcher’s interference so there’s no point in even trying to go back to how he used to be. Which is probably why he pushes away from Martyn so much- because he knows he can’t ever go back to normal so why try?

and reformed him in front of a mirror so he has to watch himself literally lose who he is. Similar to the “I feel like my insides got scooped out” line from I Saw The TV Glow. Grian literally knowing that there is something WRONG- but he can’t change or fix it

Also just gives him a reason to listen and not talk- trying hard to be the listener he thought he was going to be when the Watcher’s grabbed him. I also love the idea that they tortured Grian and gave him his wings and halo and all his shit and literally tore him open

The Watchers wanting to silence Grian- forcing him into submission for disobeying them so often- for sassing them so often and breaking out of their pattern. I like imagining him with lip scars in some instances (not super obvious ones but similar to dry, cracked lips)

I figured this mask would be owned by a more experienced Watcher, therefore it’s more simple and concealing- to show the “growth” and knowledge of said Watcher. Also the mix of the eyes of Ender is just RAH I wanted to add them in.

I thought a face plate would be pretty cool for a more inexperienced/less respected Watcher- which is why they have everything but the eyes open to help with “watching” as well as the multiple eyes along the wood. And I thought it would be really neat to have nether portals inside of the stars
