This is the start of a long thread, but it's worth a read, and does well at explaining how what is down-thread described as the "American Heresy" is an abomination, both ethically and theologically.

The mindset "I'm a Good Person, and thus what I do is Good" is a large part of it.
Pope Leo's first sermon and, uh, his using the phrase "be ever more fully a city set upon a hill" and cf'ing it to Rev 21:10 instead of any of the others before saying "many baptized Christians" are "living in a state of practical atheism" is. Well. Shots fired!
