Halloween used to be my favorite holiday of the year. Not really because of the money-spending culture around it with candy and costumes and movies. But the vibes and energy and spirit and whatnot. But it feels like life has been hellbent on associating so many bad memories with it/the time surrounding it almost every year now. 1st year uni, someone jumped off a neighboring dorm tower to their death. 2nd year, losing touch with an intimate friend to their VR addiction. Post-graduation year was the start of all my (ongoing) health issues and cancer scare. There's been others between/since I cannot remember the details of. I thought maybe this year would be different. Things were looking up. But then I had multiple (separate) dreams crushed throughout the day and late night was under the impression yet another friend was gone. So I instead spent most of the night crying myself to sleep. I of course hold nothing against the holiday itself. But it's hard to maintain the same vibe or even acknowledgement of it (considering the art and game I streamed this month had nothing remotely Halloween'y to them) that I used to have with it when I was younger.
