No one knows the exact reason, but the fact that mare was shut down and lopo which has been around almost the same amount of time has mare has (allowing nsfw lalas in public and is a bad service in peoples minds) was not shut down should be VERY telling

So, really since Lightless is doing THE EXACT SAME SHIT MARE WAS. It is HIGHLY likely it will be taken down eventually. Since Snowcloak is NOT following this path, they are at MUCH less risk of being shut down because again, Loporrit would have been shut down.

If I had to make an educated guess. I would say that a big part of the reason Mare was shut down was because of the tracking factors, and risk for information abuse. If that were not the case, SE would have also shut down loprrit GitHub repo at the same time.

The differences: Snowcloak can register you without lodestone verification, or discord authentication (even though it exists in the code they don't use it) the secret key as in mares early days is primary auth method. This allows you to maintain some anonymity aside from IP and geolocation.
