It’s going to take me a minute to get set up here, but for anyone who stumbles into my profile, hello! I’m a Beverly Hills-based entertainment litigation attorney whose primary love is copyright, but I also teach as an adjunct professor on the side and occasionally dabble in transactional work.

One of the new members of the Beverly Hills USD school board owns a private security firm *AND* a gun store, and it makes me deeply fucking uncomfortable!
the thing about private security types in the US is that their owners tend to be the most RW brained people on the planet
If the right actually took “classical education” seriously they would know that this is a *terrible* name for a private security company.

Oh wow. The order on Mariah Carey’s MSJ in the copyright infringement litigation over All I Want For Christmas Is You dropped earlier today, and it’s an absolute bloodbath. You don’t often see Rule 11 sanctions in these cases, but the plaintiffs’ attorneys seemingly screwed up… basically everything!

On top of everything else happening with Meta, this stuff is so so grim
Anyone know who’s in charge of keeping ads for nonconsensual pornography generators featuring full frontal nudity off Facebook and Instagram? Because they’re doing a pretty bad job, and the ads in question are appearing directly attached to posts by creators on the platforms without their approval.

This is genuinely distressing.
Speaking of italics, here's a reminder: Never use Garamond if your writing includes italics. The italicized verticals, for some reason, were developed via a random-angle generator. So distracting and chaotic. Avoid!

I have a capacity joke, but I’m too intoxicated to intelligently tell it.
I have a res judicata joke, but you’ve probably already heard it
I have a joke about consideration, but you have to tell me one too

I’ve been inundated with DMs off this post from friends who either tacked right this election or know people who did, and the only common denominator between them is a strong anti-empiricist bent. They all conflated the Harris campaign with the most annoying college leftist on their Instagram feed.
If perfectly triangulating your platform based on issue polling translated to electoral success, we’d be preparing for a Harris presidency. Nearly all the GOP’s actual policy proposals poll like dogshit and yet here we are. To arrive at “have even less of a spine” as the takeaway is astonishing.
I also think Democrats should surrender completely to right-wing propaganda.

After sinking over two years and thousands of hours into the most grueling arbitration of my life, the final award is ready — but the administrator refuses to release it until the parties pay one last invoice, issued Friday after my client’s COB, meaning I won’t know the outcome until next week.

@kimlifschitz.bsky.social advises me that this may not be small claims court given that the Big Bad Wolf eventually brings in Monét X Change as their attorney, and parties aren’t permitted to have legal counsel argue small claims matters for them. I have much to consider.
Lawyer brain is when you ruin your rewatch of RPDR All Stars 7 by realizing Jinkx Monsoon’s prayer for relief in Fairytale Justice is twice the jurisdictional limit of a small claims matter in California, which is where Parade Magazine tells me the season was filmed. parade.com/1368360/mike...

I credit @mmasnick.bsky.social with a ton of my formative learning on legal policy (so much so that I was even inspired to contribute some pieces to Techdirt as a baby lawyer, which Mike very graciously ran). His role on this platform gives me a ton of hope for its future.
I took over Jack Dorsey's space on the board, so there are no billionaires in power here.

Alright, giving this professional microblogging thing another shot based on reports from my wife that the best remnants of Twitter are reconstituting themselves here. If it means being part of a collective digital loogie spat in Elon Musk’s face, you don’t have to ask me twice.
