Love reading, running, hiking and summers in the campervan.
I haven’t seen the paper, but assume you can’t do this because of the dy/dx? I’m interested to know the answer.

In #ALevelMaths - FM Core Pure Vectors - Does anyone have any ideas how to do the final part of this question. We’ve hit a block and feel there’s too many variables (although I have a sneaking suspicion there is an obvious solution as the numbers are too nice!)?

In #ALevelMaths #MathsToday (yesterday actually) we started with this lovely activity that someone shared at the maths conference last year. We went on to look at geometric and matrix proofs of the addition formulae.

In FM #ALevelMaths #mathstoday one of my students was trying to prove that Var(X+Y) = Var(X) + Var (Y). They got this far, but couldn’t prove the last bit (attempts moved to the big rolling board from here!). Can anyone help prove the product law of expectation bit? …we know this is way off spec!

In #mathstoday my A* FM #ALevelMaths lunchtime workshop enjoyed this question - not as easy as they thought it looked on first sight! There was a lovely energy to the room as they argued it out on big boards.

Happy New Year! In single #ALevelMaths (i.e. not further) for Edexcel. Will students get asked to choose a substitution - specifically for questions like this? I always thought it was given, but that in FM it might not be? In other news, we got the call yesterday, so next week will be fun!

I did this set yesterday and challenged students who finished quickly to create their own similar questions. I particularly like #4!

In #MathsToday with year 12 fm #ALevelMaths we were doing integration questions from www.madasmaths.com - particularly enjoyed this one.

This set works well with fm too!

Also in further #AlevelMaths #Mathstoday (different class) we were playing around with areas in polar graphs. I love these questions!

In #mathstoday with further #ALevelMaths we finished methods in calculus with this beauty…

In #ALevelMaths #MathsToday we used this Integral resource to introduce binomial distribution. Students enjoy the dice and then easily make the links to the distribution…and it also provides a nice hook to refer back to when we do hypothesis testing later.

In Further Stats #ALevelMaths #MathsToday we were doing exam questions on the big boards and this question proved challenging. Anyone got any other interesting FS questions.

In #ALevelMaths #MathsToday we used this geogebra file to model pulleys www.geogebra.org/m/regzpujq#m... - students got lots of satisfaction from setting the parameters and doing the calculations themselves. I can’t seem to link the right page…or give credit to Mark Willis.

In my lunchtime workshop for further #ALevelMaths #MathsToday we did this question which follows nicely from @ecrmaths.bsky.social post yesterday.

They still exist in the formula book, but not actually on the spec any more.

My board work is embarrassingly messy today, especially compared to @catrionaagg.bsky.social, but does this make sense?

Does this work?

@missradders.bsky.social So the big question is - will your book thread move here or stay on X? As you can see, you have heavily influenced a very enjoyable summer of reading for me!
