For anyone under 25, there’s never been a night sky without humans orbiting above. Countless people have worked to keep that going safely - an awe-inspiring act of engineering and perseverance. I am honored to have added small pieces of art to that story.

I grew up just a few miles from the Burlingame Canyon near Lowden, WA, one of the classic exposures of the Missoula Flood rhythmites. My grandfather, when he was a kid in the 1930s, found this tusk / horn in washout.

Trump's one-note, depth-lacking, roman bathhouse marble remodel of the Lincoln bathroom is one thing, but now that I look at the previous green deco remodel, all I see is this.. IYKYK

New patch released today: a commemorative for the Lunar Orbiter Program, styled in what I hope feels like a vintage 1965 release.

Wrapping up #SpacetoberChallenge is the topic "Future". I'll probably make this a patch at some point, but for now just the artwork. Boots on Mars in my lifetime? Perhaps. Here's to hoping. Thank you @morgandenman.bsky.social for putting this monthly challenge together.

Today's #spacetoberchallenge topic is "orbit". These patches recognize the critical role the Soyuz Progress resupply spacecraft serve for crews on the ISS, particularly for fresh oxygen, water and fresh produce. They depict their payload in stylized orbits. ("Fresh Products, On Orbit")

#SpacetoberChallenge ! There are astronauts, there are cosmonauts and there are even astro-cosmonauts: those who have flown Soyuz and Shuttle/Crew Dragon. Don Pettit is one of those. Here's a patch he received during his last flight. The background is inspired by his amazing photography from orbit.

Well, conservatives can still go drive by the run down looking chainsaw shop over on Bothell Way if they need their gotchas from now on.

#SpacetoberChallenge topic today: "Habitat". We go to Utah in our van a lot and our favorite locale, hands down, is usually eyeshot of the Mars Desert Research Station. The terrain is so Mars-like, they do analog long-duration experiments and stays here with EVAs, rovers, etc.

#spacetoberchallenge topic today is “Earth”. Our Pale Blue Dot. Our home. This patch is a simple expression of her rarity and fragility in this universe.

#spacetoberchallenge topic of the day is "Historical Mission(s)". I believe, to some degree, nearly every spaceflight is historical, but obviously some are more historical than others. These are a couple of commissions from 2024 commemorating pioneering Russian rescue pups Laika and Belka & Strelka.

A few more aircraft from NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center (nee Dryden): Their ER-2 and DC-8, during a visit to Joint Base Lewis-McChord in 2015 for the Olympex experiment. I did the NASASocial insignia for this event. #spacetoberchallenge

#spacetoberchallenge today is "Jet/plane", Today I'll share some photos of #NASA 's Super Guppy outsized cargo transporter. In use since the Gemini area, these were taken when it brought the Space Shuttle Full Fuselage Trainer to the Museum of Flight in Seattle.

The fun thing about the Lunar Gateway model is that all off the modules connect with magnets, so I could display it as it's built out, and theoretically swap out landers, but I'm partial to the Dynetics concept.

Not to be confused with the super s3kr1t VLF antenna on AWACS. Not in frame: a Boeing company chevy van driving on the taxiway pushing 100mph ready to snag that wire in case it fell off. I've never seen anything like this since. (KBFI)
