• The #VetoInitiative has ensured that vetoes are no longer the end of the conversation.
• The GA can take action when the Security Council is blocked.
• We must also fully implement the Charter provision that a 'party to a dispute' shall not vote.

Today, 59 States, including LI, expressed their support for the independence, impartiality, and integrity of the ICC. We stand firmly with the Court against sanctions of ICC officials, staff and those cooperating with it and reaffirm our shared commitment to fight impunity.

Hurricane Melissa has devastated the Caribbean. In response, LI contributes CHF 100,000 to @wfp.org to support emergency aid for 1.1M people in Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti and Dominican Republic. LI stands in full solidarity with those affected!

In #UNSC Open Debate at #UN80, LI focuses on the implementation of the Charter - specifically Articles 2(4), 51, and 27(3). To live up to the promise of the Charter, we must back up our commitments with action - both those who serve on the Security Council and all other Member States.

Today we mark 80 years of the #UNCharter - a collective promise made amongst the ashes of war to uphold peace, rights and justice for all. For LI, adherence to the Charter is not simply an ideal, but the very foundation of our foreign policy. We will continue to work to this end.

LI welcomes the #ICJ Advisory Opinion on Israel’s obligations in relation to the #UN, intl. org & Third States in OPT. The AO reaffirms Israel’s obligations under IHL as an occupying power, intl.HR law, and as a member of the #UN. We look forward to engaging with States on the basis of this AO.
