Bailed on a trail half marathon today, made it a nice 10k instead and had more energy to enjoy the beautiful spring woods. A little disappointed, but I've been struggling with a migraine this week and it feels like part of learning to be a runner is dnfing sometimes.

I almost forgot! I got some moss pictures yesterday - a sort of patchwork quilt of fuzziness

Taking a little bit of witch hazel with me into the cloudy rainy days forecast ahead

Last spring I ran past a huge chunk of oak with a free sign and begged my partner to drive by, so we'd have a log for moss in the yard. It would take all our strength to lift it, and we drove away with the back of the Prius scraping the ground.

Lovely to see it hosting a baby new turkey tail!

Did I unplug to disappear into the frosty woods for several hours today? I did and it was glorious.

(Very smart to have given myself a trail half at the start of March to feel mildly urgent about training for)

Not nearly so cute, but still beloved

Never tired of living where winter looks like this (yay western Oregon!)

Sky tonight was so strange and lovely - this is just what my phone saw, no filters or futzing (the light on the branches is from the streetlight and I think the mosaic effect is because the clouds are low and reflecting city lights.)

Lungwort on a tree on my Saturday trail run. I learned this lichen has cyanobacteria! #Lichen

So far I've twice overbudgeted the time it takes to bike across town - the pedestrian bridge makes biking there faster than driving. It's nice to take a few extra minutes looking out at the water. Or, in this case, noticing who is growing on the side of the bridge

Last year, on my bike commute, a train crossing stopped traffic for about 45minutes. While we waited, the trucker hauling logs got out and came over to chat. It made the wait better and now, we always wave when we cross paths, several times a week. Unexpected commute buddy. #BikeCommute

Urban volunteers: the cucurbit taking over most of our backyard, a gift from the squirrels who enjoyed last year's Halloween pumpkins. And a neighbor's corn on the edge of the bike path. They keep chickens, so I think this is escaped feed.

I love this uncontainable springing up of food seeds.

I have two open top panniers and I snug my metal cup in with my bags (usually I have a lunch bag that wedges in there tightly)

Ginkgos are such magical urban trees (when they're not being stinkgos) I love them so much.

The well-used park on our street has many mature ashes I'm holding my breath for (they are stunning and I'll be crushed if the EABs find them). 5 baby trees (ponderosa pines, cedars) & this cutie runt.

Back East we had mud season, here in the PNW we have leafbutter season (celebrated almost solely in the bike lanes) #bikeCommuting
