'Tis autumn, indeed

A toothpick made of this pine was believed to cure or alleviate tooth ache. One had to dig the gum around the aching tooth with the pick until blood-soaked, then push it back into the tree. The tree was believed to gain more lifeforce this way.

Went to see this 400-year-old pine (Pinus sylvestris) recently, Timin mänty, or "The Pine of Timi". Oldest in the region, it is believed to have been a site for pagan worship for ages, despite the influence of Christianity in Finland.

First post, with some art! A conbadge for Wilikki, first thing I've completed in a long, long while! Drawing and painting feel a bit weird after such a long break. Tried some new things here though, like various inks for the background...
