The Democrats’ priority “now must be to show that the threat of authoritarian rule is real and unfolding every day,” E. J. Dionne Jr. says in his first piece as a contributing writer for Times Opinion. “The economy will always be with us. Our free institutions might not.”
Opinion | Democrats, Your Job Is to Defend Democracy
Voters care about the economy. But that’s not all Democrats should talk about.

EPSTEIN-Trump is playing games. He’s seeking disclosure of grand jury material but that requires court approval which the law is VERY hard to satisfy. But the government TODAY can disclose all the other investigative material on its own without court approval. Why isn’t it doing that?

Why can’t the local law/county/state law enforcement require the “ICE agents” to show them IDs and require their vehicles to display a license plate when they descend on a location. It’s not interfering. It’s protecting citizens from sick individuals who may see an opportunity to randomly kidnap.

Library of Congress staff just showed what resistance looks like. After Trump abruptly fired Dr. Carla Hayden, the respected Librarian of Congress, he tried to install Todd Blanche, his former personal lawyer and current Deputy Attorney General, as acting librarian. Staff weren’t having it.

Last night, a federal judge in El Paso became the first to review ICE’s claim that someone was an “alien enemy.”

It went SO BAD for ICE that not only did the judge order release for the people suing, without prompting he restricted the use of the Alien Enemies Act in west Texas.
NEW: In a SCATHING decision, Judge Briones of the Western District of Texas absolutely SAVAGED the government over this case, tearing to shreds ICE’s hearsay “evidence” that this husband and wife were in Tren de Aragua as “completely and wholly unsubstantiated” — and ordered their immediate release!

Republicans in Congress have done a lot wrong, but their unforgivable political sin, in my book, is their conscious decision that making every American's life worse is an acceptable price to pay for not being primaried.

They know what Trump is doing to America, and it doesn't matter to them.
the tariffs help no one and make the gop agenda much more difficult in just about every way.

but no republican will tell trump that. at least, not in a way he has to listen to.
