Book 50 of 2025.

Second (possibly third) time I've read this, but I was surprised how little I remembered. I was expecting it to end differently; and a section I previously found powerful didn't really stand out this time.

Reading (and re-reading) is strange sometimes.

Finished this beast, and it's as good as they say. Nineteenth century London, in book form. #Booksky

Book 48 of 2025

This was a very powerful read, largely because of how honest Harding is: not just about his work as a forensic psychiatrist, but also his own difficult childhood. #Booksky

Book 47 of 2025

An encyclopaedic survey of day-to-day life in the London of Charles Dickens. A must-read for any Dickens afficionado. #Booksky

Book 46 of 2025.

Read this for my school's book club. Not bad, but I've read a lot similar, so I did spot several twists coming.

Book 45 of 2025.

I'm glad I persisted with this. A really strong voice, powerfully emotional and cleverly structured.

And all from my local library. Use it or lose it folks! #Booksky

Book 44 of 2025

Model, photographer, war correspondent, journalist, chef. I'm a bit in love with Lee Miller now, and who wouldn't be? Looking forward to seeing the Tate show soon. #Booksky

For example. I could've picked so many others.

Book 43 of 2025

I've wanted to read this for some time, and it was worth the wait. I love Nash's WW1 paintings ('The Menin Road' especially), and McKean (who I also love) is on great form. Some of the pages are just eye-popping, and repay close attention. #Booksky

Book 42 of 2025

A grisly, fascinating, rag-bag history of decapitation, covering science, politics, art, anthropology and much else.

Fun fact: 16th/17th London had a 'Keeper of the Heads', whose job it was to maintain the bonces displayed on London Bridge.

Really pleased to pick up a secondhand copy of this on the way home. Wanted to read it for a while, and it's also full of some amazing images. #Booksky

I mean, really. What a story.

Only 20 pages in, but loving this already. Largely for Kermode's honesty: 'Shakespeare is hard, some bits no-one understands, but it's fine.'

I will be there.

What would Orwell think, Elon?

I'd like to think he'd have you pegged as the slippery chancer that you are, inciting consequences that you will never have to face. Shame on you.

Book 41 of 2025

So much I enjoyed about this: emotional, and moving, and messy and hopeful. It made me speak out loud, about people who don't really exist. And that's pretty good, right? #Booksky

I've emailed my MP about my concerns regarding Musk and today's demonstration in London. I'm still waiting for a response from my last email of 27 August... But what can you do? Stay strong, keep trying.
