She/her. Librarian. Witch. Nerd. I lecture on education through pop culture. No one is safe until all people are safe
New Superman movie was pretty decent, but there was some pretty unbelievable plot devices in it such as the American Media using journalism to fight a power man billionaire, and said powerful billionaire facing justice at the end for his crimes.

I’ve been listening to one of my favorite Anime soundtracks recently. Wolf’s Rain was such a weird ass show that just hit all the right buttons for me, and Yoko Kano’s soundtrack is just perfect for it. I still waltz in the kitchen to Valse De La Lune.

Had an incredible night of 1960’s surf rock and cosmic horror in Belmont Ma with Green Door Labs. Their Cthulhu Luau was as much fun as Club Drosselmeyer.

I always get a kick out of being able to interact as a fictionalized version of myself- the librarian.

Well, it went very well. I did not beg for asylum.

So on Friday I have the honor of speaking in front of the Japanese consulate-general about the history and influence of anime in the USA.

Would it be entirely uncouth to end with “And in conclusion, my country is a dumpster fire being raped by fascists. I want out.”

Yeah probably.

Been listening to a lot of Red Hot Chili Peppers lately, especially stuff off one hot minute which was a huge album to me in my late teens.

Good lord “My Friends” hits different at 47 than at 18. And it hard on me back then….

Today I am hosting a Spring Dinner for the witches and weirdos in my life. That’s the only resurrection I need: the resurrection of my faith in human beings. And it happens every time I see the folks I love.

One of my favorite books of my late childhood. It’s a good thing to remember.

Me and my partner just watched Porco Rosso recently. One of my favourite lines has a similar tone.

As a lover of novelty tarot decks, the fact that there is no Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Deck is a crime. The four turtles match the four suites perfectly, and so many characters work so well in the major arcana.

This is entirely silly but I had a yearly follow up at my cardiologist office today. On my way out I got a glance at my record on the computer on the room. It starts “Sarah is a very pleasant 47 year old”

It was nice to see.

One of the things I hate about my brain is that it’s extremely hard for me not to be pessimistic. I generally keep it to myself because who wants to be that guy, but I can’t help but assume the worst.

The other thing I hate is how much of the time I’m right about the things I’m pessimistic about.

Highlights of the talk yesterday:

Awesome nerdy family

No Terfs and No red hats in the audience.

During the discussion, we all disagreed sometimes in reasonable. And often starting with “I totally get people loves this, and that’s awesome, but I felt different” type statements.

It was awesome.

I’m talking about women in comics at a library today and we’re going to talk about censorship by an authoritarian (McCarthy) and a lot of very Queer characters.

And Dodge has announced they will reinstate funding to libraries that promote “patriotic values” aka kiss trumps ass, hang POC and LGBTQ+ patrons out to dry, and hide anything that doesn’t paint the USA as a glorious savior. By the playbook.

So considering that a LOT of guests from other countries aren’t going to feel comfy traveling to the USA for con appearances, let me just remind everyone I am a Librarian who has published professionally (not as much as I’d like) and who has lectured on educational pop culture for over 20 years.

The Day The Earth Blew Up was a modern spin on a lot of classic Loony Tunes traditions. Lots of Easter eggs for classic animation fans, horror fans, and sci fi fans. Seeing it in the theater with other folks also adds to the experience. Highly recommend.
