Liberties' one and only Eleanor Brooks on why the European Commission's Rule of Law Report needs serious reform.

Op-ed in @euobserver.com 👇
The EU Commission envisages its rule-of-law report as a buffer against authoritarianism and a tool to strengthen democracy in the EU. In theory, this sounds promising (and desperately needed). But in practice, the commission’s reporting cycle risks becoming ornate window dressing.

🗣️ Liberties' submission to the @ec.europa.eu's “Digital Omnibus” call for evidence

The simplification of EU digital laws sounds great in theory — who doesn’t love clearer rules? But simplifying obligations for business should never come at the expense of the fundamental rights of EU citizens.

❤️‍🩹 Today is the 8th anniversary of the death of Daphne Caruana Galizia, whose fearless journalism is a continuous source of inspiration.

Her assassination was the tipping point of rising violence against journalists in Europe, but as her sister Corinne told us, the fight for justice isn't over. ⤵️
