Had one of those moments this afternoon where a totally different class to the one I’d prepared for turned up. It’s Week B and not Week A. Totally my fault.

Classic parents evening timetable for me now.
- Solid cluster of appointments 5:00 - 6:30
- Massive gap
- 2 appointments at 7:45 and 7:55

Monday is honestly never that bad once you're actually doing Monday. The thought of Monday is worse than the thing itself. Yet another reason the Sunday night blues are ridiculous.

Interviewing for a new head of art tomorrow. When I interview, I always think I feel more nervous for the candidates, than the candidates actually do themselves 😬

Occupational hazard of being in music ed = being fairly fed up with Christmas music before the end of October 😖

Why are so many colleagues unable to keep to the 10 minute appointments at parents evening? It causes all of us to run late and makes the evening longer than it already is. If you need to talk for longer, arrange another meeting or a telephone follow up... 🤬

The stench of Lynx Africa in my Year 11 class this afternoon was overpowering. Those lads must have big weekend plans 😬😂

Open Evening tonight, and it's amazing how the little jobs you've been asking to have sorted for the past few months suddenly get done. My broken blind and missing ceiling tile have finally both been dealt with this morning!

Let's just say, 3 back to back classes of Year 9, on the same day as a full moon, lived up to expectations.

Some of those coffee cups in the staff room have their own eco-system 🤢

The guy who comes into my department and does beginner trombones before school every Wednesday deserves a pay rise. No idea how he puts up with that at 8am, it's bad enough 2 rooms away 🙉

Head of Art told me today that he's retiring at Xmas. Knew it was coming but had hoped for another year or 2.

Gutted. As well as being a superb teacher, he's someone I always ran ideas past. Never a "yes man" & never shy to give me constructive criticism. I'll really miss him.

School in the morning on what feels like the 63rd of September
September 28, 2025 at 6:47 PM
How is it possible for so many Year 7s to lose so many items of PE kit and school ties in the first 3 weeks of term? There should be some research done on this.

3 wedding gigs this weekend with my quartet, 2 of them outdoor ceremonies. I hope the weather behaves... ⛈️😬

Found out I won’t have a tutor group next academic year (middle leaders are given a “year off” in rotation at our school).
I’ve never not had a TG. Whilst the extra time will be lovely, I think I’ll miss it - will certainly feel strange for sure…

Better set my alarm clock for the morning (although it’s a given I’ll be awake at least an hour before it goes off).
Wishing all edu colleagues a great Summer Term 2 💪☺️

A week of half term feels like it flies by quicker than a Monday morning 😢

Just realised I hadn't opened my advent calendar since Monday. 4 chocs in one go. Who said Friday 13th is unlucky?

The composer Arnold Schoenberg was superstitious about the number 13. As 7+6=13 he feared he would die aged 76. And he did: on Friday 13th July, at 13 minutes to midnight.

There's nothing quite like a thin covering of snow to whip Year 7 and 8 into an uncontrollable state of excitement.. 😬

First teaching day of the new school year done. It’s never nearly as bad as your brain tells you it’s going to be for the last 2 weeks of the summer holiday 😌

I can’t believe that nervous “day before results day” feeling is here again already. August is going by way too fast!

Further to the info in my bio:

⭐️I’m an Irish born secondary teacher working in the West Midlands
⭐️6 years in the profession
⭐️I’m a middle leader (head of creative arts in an 11-18 academy)
⭐️Also a semi-pro musician when I can find the time!
I'm keen to follow back on here. It was impossible on twitter because it just got too busy, but please, when you set your account up, say who you are and something about yourself. Been caught out already by following people in good faith to find out they're DM creepers, so do add a bio.
