So great to see it on the big screen. This time around, was struck by how Jean Heather as Lola was the perfect counterpoint to the leads. A role that could have gone all mushy cut like a knife.

❤️Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague.

It's about living in a moment when it feels like the stars align and nothing will be the same, and how all creative collaborations are really love stories--with all the happiness and rockiness that implies.

Maybe not a great movie, but a wonderful one.

Last night’s Japanese noir : Masuda’s Rusty Knife (1958). Low-budget, and there were greater Nikkatsu noirs to come, but still plenty atmospheric with jolts of New Wave energy and violence. Throw young, pre-implantation Joe Shishido from the train!

Was I the only one who at the end of Framed (in Criterion’s Blackout Noir series) shouted “Give the money to Edgar Buchanan!”?

Watched Witchhammer (1970) for Halloween, which was probably a mistake. It was genuinely terrifying to see how institutional power can be weaponized against everyone from the marginalized to the smug bourgeoisie. Thank god we live in totally different times, right?

Happy #Halloween!
