I enjoy the ones by writers and other slobs like myself who took up running in middle age. But they always feel the need to rehash the Pheidippides story and I am over it

Okay, I'll grant you that, but these particular pizza chains were not good 20 years ago either. I'd say overall the culinary landscape has become better and more varied in the US since food media got huge, and preferences have changed.
