French-Swedish UI game engine plumber, textile tangler (Fibraquarelle) and glassblower-in-training. DIYing public health since 2020. Ranter extraordinaire. Queer. No pronouns, else they/iel/hen.
Every single memory from 2020 and 2021 is tainted because I did not get even a minute of State-level “we’re in this together”, and then I returned to France right on time for the solidarity that was present THERE to vanish completely and just. Gah.

It’s fucking hard though, because it might mean that I scare people who’d actually be a lot safer with me (I’m WYSIWYG incarnate, I don’t trick or manipulate or attempt to endear myself) than with people who are “nicer”.
If my attitude makes them flee towards the double-tongued jerks that’s BAD
November 29, 2025 at 10:23 PM
That makes me a major threat to their power, I suppose, even though they’d never put it that way.
I wonder if my routinely being unpleasant but correct (because I’m shit at tone) is extra dangerous because it means people are encouraged to decouple likeability from truth, or something
November 29, 2025 at 10:16 PM
I value truth A LOT MORE than keeping the peace, so the first trick doesn’t work on me. And I am obnoxiously hardened against such accusations because I don’t have the kind of trauma that turns you into a people-pleaser. I’ll self-examine, but never grovel, and oh *those people do hate that so much*
November 29, 2025 at 10:14 PM
Adult bullies and “in-community” bullies in particular operate on specific assumptions. They think you’ll value keeping the peace more than truth, and in queer circles they are highly fluent in wielding the language of social justice and bigotry accusations to twist facts and make you look bad
November 29, 2025 at 10:11 PM
Anyway, it’s French drama, I was already switching gears to recommending public resources instead of the hornet’s nest posing as a community and this is certainly not going to make me change my mind, LMAO

Look at me attempting insightful autocritique when, once I push for “and what’s the anonymous complaint saying exactly” I get something that’s just 50% slander by volume.
Kids these days. I’m 30+yo, do you seriously think this is my first time being bullied and I can’t spot the patterns
November 29, 2025 at 10:05 PM
On trans theory specifically though that might create a thorny optics problem? Because since misogyny is typically understood as bad, I don’t point it out, meaning by volume most of my critique won’t land on those few trans dudes being sexist asses because… that’s “water is wet” levels of useful

If there’s a constant with me it’s that I want people to do better. And I assume, maybe wrongly, that having more info, more context is helpful, because it encourages seeing things with nuance instead of simply Good or Bad.
I don’t think political education is compatible with “ignorance is bliss”

Please, it’s Dark Souls AND Silksong difficulty discourse, it has evolved!
(I’m so tired)

There was at least some covid / trauma hypothesis in the replies, and a few quotes analyzing that treating students as customers will have this result, but not enough “BOSS, THE FASCISM”
November 29, 2025 at 11:35 AM
Agreed on all counts! My own stance is that I have yet to see a class of codegen problems that those tools solve better than existing, cheaper, simpler, non-black-box solutions. But they *are* good at boilerplate, I’ll give them that, that just isn’t the part that I am ever losing time on

Gonna do a quick edit to link this piece in there ‘cause it was shared by Violet Blue in a recent round-up and it has some relevant elements, notably that fucking up remains a choice annabookwriter.medium.com/to-my-unmask...
To My Unmasked Friend in the Fifth Year of COVID
I’m going to be honest with you, because I love you, and you deserve nothing but honesty. I’m going to try really hard not to be angry…

It’s a spectrum, isn’t it? I’m more thinking of boilerplate that stimulates muscle memory somewhat than stuff that can be solved by “Rename this field”
November 28, 2025 at 11:57 PM
Yeah that “compatible with our civilization” shit is… very familiar rhetoric seen from here, it has spread from French far-right theorists across the political spectrum over time. But for y’all it’s marked escalation, hopefully too fast to go unremarked upon

I had that happen with “shotgun” fairly quick into the Battlefield Customize adventures and ended up british’ing it to SHOUTGUN, which was very funny

No, my implication is that using them for the drudgery might produce acceptable results (unlike the other stuff, where it won’t produce acceptable results) but at a cost to your own skills
