I 💯 agree with you. I had to quit this game about half way through (and I very rarely quit games) because it was just making me angry. It feels so artificially difficult, and complaining about it to the gamer crowd just yields a bunch of unhelpful 'git gud's. I'm so sad about quitting this game.

You must be drunk quite frequently.

Tailwind allows you to short-circuit that. Using utility classes to beat elements into shape and largely allows you to ignore some of the more esoteric features of CSS. This can be a huge time saver, of course, but it ignores the RICHNESS of CSS. And I think that's a tragedy.

I think what is happening is that, in order to become good, or even just passible at CSS, you have to embrace its structure, you have to develop a mental model that allows you to see how it works. And that's more powerful than we give it credit for. Doing so allows you access to its meta structure.

This is certainly not true of everyone - if this post were on X it would immediately attract a ton of "exception as rule replies". But I have seen it in technical interviews and with new hires frequently. Mid level front end developers who rely solely on Tailwind for a length of time are bad at CSS.

It's interesting right? It definitely feels like a throwback to simpler times™. Great article.

I never thought of how long the process might take! I have visions of Christians hanging in the air chanting for 72 hours...
