A postcard from Caracas 1960. Not a shithole country.

A reminder that deer season in Missouri opens tomorrow. I wouldn't recommend a walk in the woods no matter how nice the weather is. The annual pre gunfire bonfire about 3 miles away has been lit.

The kitchen window oaks are peaking today.

My morning adventure was opening a rusted shut popcorn tin full of these indoors. The fumes of decaying plastic(?) were powerful, to say the least. I'm not sure they will air out. I think I tracked the culprit to a scented strawberry shortcake from 1982.

Why is the sky red?

The last datura managed to open just before dark. It's 32°. The oaks out back were battered by the wind today. We'll see if the green leaves that remain turn or just drop off after 24° overnight. That means our view to Beaufort is opening up.

Boxes of toys are coming out of storage. I wonder how long Purina dog food in a box lasted. From the early 90s. Among the contents..the rejected cabbage patch doll with all her adoption papers.

The last pages from 1939 and a close-up of the map. My great aunt and uncle saved these. Her book is out of print unfortunately. I think you'd enjoy her account of camping throughout Missouri 1930s-50s.

More from 1939. Look at all those dams. There are 2 more pages.

From 1939. It's been around a while.

We're in for a hard freeze. Say goodbye to the last of the zinnias. Wondering if the final datura will have time to bloom. The Nagasaki cabbage should at least be happier. It's been too hot.

All this SA news has me thinking about my favorite great aunt, who lived in Venezuela from 1958 until her death in 1984. She is buried in what is now an unsafe botanical garden near the university in Caracas. Here she is visiting Missouri in 1960. I was sick, as usual, and not allowed in the pool.

It's really disappointing how healthcare workers have capitulated to the "masks are tyranny" crowd. I have one nephrologist who has a sign that says, "Masks aren't necessary. But appreciated." That's anout as close to encouragement that I've seen.

After a year, the perfectly behaved poodle is off leash in the yard. Her knucklehead companion still can not be trusted.

From the same album, Hillsdale, Michigan. That looks like my great aunt Freda, Cora's sister, getting her hair combed, who was along on the trip.

My late Halloween contribution. This family photo from Michigan always creeped me out. Cousin Edith, I think. Photo taken by my great aunt Cora about 1911.

Purgy. Short for Walpurga, because my offspring likes odd names.

I feel seen. We have finally been acknowledged. Dr's looked at me in "that way" for decades when I would link my migraine to the barometer. My migraine is always the day before the drop, though. I was miserable yesterday.

This lady is not poor. She has a masters in literature and taught kindergarten in WG for many years. She was run out of Stl Co for pet hoarding 20 yrs ago. She is not reclusive either. She's a well known "eccentric" around here. Most have no idea how she lives though. No relatives. Extremely sad.

Last week marked one year since the "knock on the door" from the neighbor asking for help. We had lost the second of our elderly dogs, Buster, just a week before and were trying to get used to zero dogs in our care. Before the day was over, we had 2 dogs, 1 cat and 10 rabbits.

We rented this 1865 house in kirkwood from 1975 to 1985. The rent was $125 a month. Owned by a very reclusive old lady, it had no hot water in the kitchen, among other inconveniences. Totally worth it. A legendary party house in its day. Now a plumbing co. Dad's 1972 buick in the drive.

Of course. The only game I play has been Sim Build It for 11 years. I haven't spent a dime. Now I have to delete everything EA. Goodbye Busterville. And it's all about the football that I despise. God forgive me, I really hate these people.
