Definitely. I was curious because I've come to realize that my family gave me a lot more autonomy than most families, and it's a big part of who I am. So I think this ends up skewing a lot of people's perception of what's a normal level of parental control, or even what the lower bar really is.

The classic example is a parent pulling a kid out of the street as a cat approaches. Easy justification. In general it's probably very complex.

Some might say the key is that "unjustified" hierarchy is the problem. So in familial situations, you can consider each scenario of power being used and ask what the justification is.
