I found my happy place yesterday, sitting on a bench at the National Trust’s Lyme, wearing Regency costume.

The costumes are free; visitors can borrow them to wander the grounds, Regency style 😍

Such a great day out. More dressing up opportunities at heritage sites, please!

An uplifting evening with a truly joyous person

It was 5pm and he was most displeased I had not immediately switched off the laptop.

(To be fair, you have to admire his strong work/life boundaries).

Even so, it was something of a surprise to those around him when, on one visit to the medical facilities, he opined to a club physio who was treating an injured player that he was doing the massage all wrong. And - unlike Sir Jim - obviously didn't know how to massage properly.

Visited the fascinating Oxburgh Hall @nationaltrusteast.bsky.social on Friday

The volunteers absolutely made the visit, especially the amazing volunteer in the King’s Room who was funny, knowledgeable & a brilliant storyteller.

Thank your volunteers this Christmas (& every day!); they are amazing!
The King’s Room at Oxburgh Hall, so called because King Henry VI (I think!) stayed at the Hall (and not in this room) for one night as part of a tour of East Anglia. A solid wooden 1530s cabinet is in the centre of the photo. This used to be called the flag cabinet as the family kept their flags in it. A wood panelled wall is to the left of the photo. Part of an original window is to the right. A wooden chair is below the window. At the front of the photo is part of a small bed with a light blue duvet. My favourite bit of the photo is what looks like part of a medieval tapestry hanging from the ceiling, complete with threads and weighted at the bottom so if hangs like an original tapestry - it is, in fact, only 6 years old! It’s an incredible replica made by a German company who also made the tapestries for Wolf Hall. The original tapestry is in a private collection. Thank you to the volunteer for all of this fascinating detail!

I love this painting of the Acheson sisters at Chatsworth House.

I was, however, most annoyed to learn the sisters wanted to pose in golf wear, but this was overruled in favour of ‘elegance’. Boo. You would have looked MAGNIFICENT in golf wear.

My freelance morning has consisted of watching my 7 year old niece in her Christmas play and wearing a necklace she made for me in a client meeting.

A ‘How your email finds me’ hog at the brilliant RAMM in Exeter
A dark brown hog-type animal (I’m sorry, I don’t know exactly what animal!), stuffed and on display in a white museum case, looks at the camera in a startled manner. Somebody stole a duvet while I was out and used it to create his own extra cosy bed. To be honest, I admire his commitment.
