We did previously. (See T&W tweet below).

And current North East bus operators City Transport, Go North East, JH Coaches, Northstar, and Stanley Travel all have some dual door buses but that’s mostly down to buying ex-London stock, rather than spec-ing it themselves.

Outside of London the following places operate some dual door buses, (but no where near the percentage that London does): Bath, Bristol, Brighton, Cambridge, Dublin, Edinburgh, York.

Of course countless towns & cities abroad operate with 2 or more sets of doors by default.

Really hope Go North East have spec’d dual doors for the new buses due imminently on the X66.
The disembarking & boarding at Gateshead Interchange & Metrocentre Interchange is PAINFUL!

And hopefully bus franchising will bring flat fares to reduce stop dwell times further!

This! 👇
I think our antiquated boarding system is also big delay factor: every single passenger having to interact with the driver, even if they've already got a ticket, plus only one door for entry/exit. The efficiency at bus stops when you use London buses: one tap, plus separate exit, is incredible. 😔

Excellent! When/where will details be revealed?

Paving to the southern end of Northumberland Street has been completed ahead of the popular Fenwick Christmas Window reveal.
A few squares of tarmac remain where the new Pilgrim Path lighting columns will sit + trees to be planted in the NY so they’ve a better chance of survival.

The recently added artwork to the John Dobson Street elevation of Pilgrim’s Quarter features lots of local details & landmarks if you look at it carefully.

While disappointing buses won’t serve the station properly, if Newsham Station’s footbridge stairs & lifts had been incorporated into the road bridge then buses could’ve served stops ON the bridge, instead of having to deviate off route to circle the station’s car park, adding to journey times.

The glazing is going in at the North East Space Skills & Technology Centre at Northumbria University, Ellison Place.

The pavements surrounding Pilgrim’s Quarter should be finished and open from around mid December I’m informed.
