Little bit of a rant here in the form of a screenshot for simplicity of posting. Maybe it'll resonate with some folks.
A tirade on AI by Bluesky Lurker Bibliogre, as follows: My perspective on so-called AI as a Library Cataloger and Systems Technician and adjunct professor. Generative AI is simply destructive. The idea of ‘responsible’ use of generative AI is like ‘responsible’ use of nicotine cigarettes: there is no use-case that does not eventually degrade the capabilities of the user and those in proximity. Even if the data centers on which they run were not environmentally catastrophic to the communities in which they are built—which they are; even if gen-AI were not run upon stolen and uncredited content—which it is; even if it were not an explicit and direct attack on the value of creative and intellectual labor—which it is; and even if it was exactly what the companies that own it are desperately advertising it to be—which it is NOT… even if all this were the case, use of generative AI is still an outsourcing of comprehension, analysis, thought, and expression to an opaque, unaccountable system owned and run by for-profit entities. What a dystopian concept. I want no part of it. How can we as educators expect our students to develop intellectual rigor, creative thinking, and academic integrity if we cannot be relied upon to model those virtues ourselves?

#criticalrole so this made my day. I'm cataloging books the library, looking through the official LOC subject headings for an exam study guide, and lo and behold right next to the entry for those, what do I see? I giggled like a loon, I tell you!
