This bullpen game thing really works! Though this one was closer than the score suggested — it was a two-run game until the seventh, and even then Tim Spooneybarger came in earlier than planned to bail Horacio Ramírez out of a jam.
One win away!

No DH and a clear platoon-split bifurcation in the Nats' lineup so I went full bullpen game. Another tough starter for Washington but my two runs were enough — my parade of pitchers threw a combined shutout until Fernando Rodney gave up a solo shot in the ninth.

That’s more like it! Horacio Ramírez threw an inning as an opener (lefty matched up better against the top of their order) and my knuckleballer took it most of the rest of the way. An outing to forget for the Nationals’ Nate Robertson

The biggest mismatch in World Series history (I won 70 more games than the Nats) opened with one of the biggest upsets of all time.
Mike Maroth (0.97 regular-season ERA) got tagged for six runs. I couldn't touch their starter's knuckleball/power-splinker combo.
