I think it’s a nuanced issue. A lot of what we characterize as “social disorder” stems from Edmonton’s role as host to major hospitals and remand centres that serve the broader region.

The lack of support for vulnerable people who come (or are brought) to Edmonton is a regional issue IMO.

It’s been a while since I lived in the US, so I might be out of the loop, but I think we are still at 50.

They don’t really consider the fact that some Albertans might disagree, or that they might have to persuade or build a coalition to enact their agenda. They seem to assume Alberta is this homogenous population that shares all of their grievances and proposed solutions.

This is worse than I expected. I wish I could tag my trustee, Julie Kusiek, to get her response to this, but she’s not on Bluesky. Also, not sure how satisfying the response would be.

Time is always a factor in negotiations, which is why I didn’t really like Carney’s self imposed deadlines. Stretching things out is to our benefit. The “emergency” tariffs are on shaky legal ground, Trump’s popularity is in the toilet. Trump’s position is likely not going to get stronger with time.

It’s also interesting because the CPC’s numbers still are pretty high, compared to previous elections, and the LPC’s numbers come largely at the expense of the party to their left, the NDP.

This post inspired me to pop over on my lunch break. What a great shop! I walked out with a couple of records and a CD.
