Something that’s so striking in these emails is how…unimpressive Epstein is. He comes off as a pompous, sub-literate lech. Yes everyone is so mortifyingly solicitous of him! All fawning and flattery! Why?????

Sign me up! I’m really excited about the direction Edify is taking under Omar’s direction.
This week, as part of Edify's 5th anniversary issue, we launched The Readers’ Trust—a new initiative to support the magazine’s efforts to publish more stories of high public interest. It’s our way of ensuring we can continue producing in-depth, ambitious, fact-checked journalism for the next 5 yrs.

The thing that strikes me about separatists (in addition to the pervasive victim mentality) is that they all are confident of how an independent Alberta will govern itself. Its approach to immigration, education, public health, and environmental regs will be exactly how *they* think it should be.
So Maclean's found a bunch of anti-science, antivaxx grievance addicts who don't understand basic civics and who are mouthing white supremacist dogma, and made them the face of Alberta separatism while trying to insist that they're real people and not just cranks.
Zeus wept.

Canada’s most renegade province has been threatening to go it alone for more than a century. Now they mean it more than ever.

This is a pretty concise distillation of a certain view of public safety and crime that equates personal discomfort, awkward interactions, visible mental health disorders, and visible poverty and addiction with dangerous crime.
REPORTER: Why are troops stationed here at Union Station and at the National Mall instead of areas where crime is higher?

JD VANCE: Crime is actually extremely high here at Union Station. You have vagrants.

Your periodic reminder that public and media perceptions of crime have almost nothing to do with the actual incidence of crime or the likelihood of being a crime victim, but rather are almost entirely driven by the existence of visible homeless people.

I'm seeing grown-ass adults marvel at how high stocks jumped today - they must think their mom actually vanished when she played "peek-a-boo."

This line of argument is obviously absurd. But even if you take it at face value, the clear admission is that given the choice between taking national security seriously and playing political games, Poilievre chooses the latter.
He of course had security clearance when he was a Minister in Harper govt. But he is now the Leader of the Opposition and his constitutional job is to question and challenge the govt. He can't do that if he is muzzled by law. Libs would like nothing more than for him to shut up, but it won't happen.

I also ask my direct reports for updates, but that’s not the issue here. I’m not sure why anyone assumes that this is not already happening in the federal workforce, at more appropriate levels of accountability.
Listen – it’s not nuts to ask federal employees to report what they’re working on. My staff has to do weekly reports too.

But the WAY Musk is doing this? What’s he gonna do, read 2 million emails? This is just not serious stuff.

A bunch of losers went out and threw Nazi salutes in Alberta, Canada yesterday while holding racist signs.

Might be time for the media to stop calling them “hand gestures” and start reporting on this big fucking problem for what it is!

Edmonton Municipal Region Board just announced that it would be winding up operations and closing down, following recent funding and governance changes announced by the provincial government. This is a blow to regional planning and services in the region.

This kind of whataboutism is so dumb. Tell me what the CEOs of those companies did or which ideologies they publicly supported this week without looking it up.

The VW instance always drives me particularly nuts though. The company was taken over and run by the British military for five years!
Gonna sell my Tesla and buy a nice unproblematic car whose founders, owners and managers never were racists or still don't collaborate with reactionary interests, like a Ford! VW! Mitsubishi! BYD! Mercedes! Fiat!
I'm no graphic designer but I think this does the trick, sending 100 copies of this to my local print shop tomorrow morning and putting them in my backpack docs.google.com/document/d/1...

This Cybertruck did not crash. It made a heartfelt and perhaps ill-advised gesture that, in the moment, might have been misinterpreted as a crash, but we should not rush to judgement.

the constitution is a public and political document as much as a legal one and constitutional meaning is a public and political process. trump can say X but other political institutions, and the nation’s various publics, have to agree for it to mean anything

Democrats should also acknowledge that seeking a middle ground with a man who calls immigrants “animals” and says he will “protect” women “whether the women like it or not” is unlikely to land in a good place.

In any normal workplace, if an employee responded to the hiring of a trans coworker by proposing bathroom rules to specifically exclude that person, accompanied hundreds of tweets about that person, that employee would be disciplined or fired, rightly so.

Not the case in the House of Reps, I guess.

Democrats will often look at something that doesn’t poll well and think “oh no, better move away from that!” but they’re getting their role backwards. parties influence public opinion. if you’re purely reactive, you’re just letting the GOP frame every debate.
the lesson of the election isn’t “we should give up on trans rights,” it’s that the GOP took an issue that negatively impacted almost no one and made it a headliner. why would it help to surrender on an issue if they can create a grievance from thin air?

I’m going to keep it real and hope I don’t get accused of overstating the issue; children’s liberation is the key to the future you want. The active, and often dismissed, oppression of children is near the root of what ails us as a nation.

“buh when did trump ever follow the rules”

it’s not about following the rules, dipshits, it’s about whether the words carry any legal authority. there is no button he can press to make congress adjourn. congress would have to choose to do it. and that is a distinction that matters.
sorry but article ii section 3 does not say that the president can force congress to adjourn *when it does not want to* and spreading that message is doing trump’s work for him

The ironic thing about post election chatter is that a lot of the time it’s candidates who lost, underperformed, or underworked who have endless time to go on TV and share their blame story.

And for their part, journalists rarely EVER ask if that person actually ran a functionally solid campaign
