I can't emphasise enough how important subscriptions are for magazines. The money to pay writers and artists has to come from somewhere. If you read short stories and have the means, seriously consider supporting one or two of your favourites by subscribing. It will literally keep them afloat.
Amazon shutting down subscriptions on their Newsstand has fucked a lot of short fiction magazines. If you value short fiction and don't want to see more magazines closing and scaling back, do consider subscribing to Apex during their subscription drive.
We need 300 new subscribers (including renewals) to keep publishing issues at our current size. If we don't get hit that number we will need to scale back the magazine size.
