I’ll clean the house when I’m done writing this story, and not before! ::shakes fist at reflection in mirror::

My people. I’m engaged in my senses and dreaming of stories. Yes, I’ve experienced loss and I’m also alive rn, so that’s what I’m doing. You do it, too. All the love.

Gearing up for #WorldCon Seattle. Yes, I’m on the program. Yes, someone close to me died earlier this year. At some point, we choose life; we do the life-affirming things. I got this.

Some of the birds I came across on my walk along a wooded bike trail in Greenwood Park, Des Moines this morning. Love the Merlin Bird app.

It’s that time of year when the Hugo Award reading packet ensures I have great sf/f reading material for more than a month.

While cleaning up saved links in my laptop, I ran across one called “Mason’s apartment”. It took me a few seconds to realize, oh, that’s where one of my characters lives.

It’s a one-bedroom in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago, and has a boho vibe.

Hope I sell that novel.

I wrote a micro fiction piece today. That might not sound like much, but my spouse died in March, so writing this was an achievement.

Idk how I did it, but I managed to lose my box cutter, which I had in my actual hand before setting it down to take a phone call from my cousin. Poof! Gone.

Through grief, simple life-affirming acts: feeding the cats, smelling lilac blooms in my backyard, making a paella with artichokes.

Why am I so freaking tired after supper? Oh right. Grief. Yet also, what a beautiful day it was, and is.
April 21, 2025 at 11:41 PM
There is grief, and also now, cooking. I was tired of others feeding me. Today I made baba ganoush and froze some of it.
