The whole thing is so irresponsible. The conspiracy theorists finally have a real scientist saying exactly what they want to hear, and anyone else who disagree is automatically considered a shill for the stonecutters or whoever is in charge of hiding the Truth this week.

Well it is a part of the area called AI, using various technologies from AI research. But if by "real AI" you mean sentiment human level AI then no. But that is not what the term means. It is more the area of making machines be able to do things that would otherwise require human intelligence.

We were worried that AI would become sentient and start controlling or killing us, turns out we are our own worst enemy, as usual, and AI is used as another tool in our never ending journey to make things worse.

Completely true. We have a society where you are required to have money, yet there are never enough jobs for everyone. That is a guarantee for poverty and homelessness.

How long before the people in the US start demanding universal healthcare? Surely it must happen at some point. It must be getting more and more difficult convincing people that what they have now is better.

Yes, it seems to be an amazing investment. Sure it's a lot of money, but so many things will be improved. I think there will be a cascade effect where UBI will reduce poverty, which in turn will improve other things, which will improve more things, etc. It will pay for itself.
