It is #showmeyourcables week. This is one of my personal favourite hat patterns, Smitten. It features the x and o pattern paired with the classic tree of life.

Two versions of the same hat. 1) on the left, a classic Grey version with a simple 2x2 rib leading into the cables. 2) on the right, a very hot pink version of the same toque. The tree of life pattern starts at the cast on and moves to the crown. The x and o pattern is embellished with contrasting bobbles and 3 dimensional hearts 💕 in pink and white dangle from the crown.

My favourite view in all of Nanaimo. The point at Sunset Beach. I have admired this view for 35 years, watched the trees grow, had picnics on the rocks beneath the tree branches. We watched eagles and sea lions and the ocean roll in and out every day we spent there. Sunrise 🌅 over the water. The light highlights Pipers Lagoon and drifts across the bay to the beach. An old pier, rotting back to the earth, points to the sun.

EAR Flap hat 👒 edged in white #bobbles and patterned in red and green stripes. A quick knit with chunky yarn. Two coloured Brioche stitch hat, with a cross styled crown finishing. The coloures are natural and peach. This was knit with 2 heavy worsted yarns and is totally reversible. Golden toned wool knit into round heavy looking cables. Short beanie style,.with a minimal ribbing band. Cashmere in 3 colours, soft raspberry, light Grey and dark grey, with silver beads overlaying the light Grey stripes and edging the bottom edge. The hat has been shaped to create a Vintage cloche styled hat. It is soft and very elegant.

Look up, waayyy up. Looking to the sky from the forest floor. Seeing the blue sky through the sunlight dappled leaves and branches was truly uplifting. The smell of damp earth and cedar boughs was heady. What a way to start the day.

Brilliant purple pink hydrangea is surrounded by greenery. Up close the flower centers are browning and not looking perfect! But still perfectly beautiful.

A tailors dummy is displaying a lacy little cowl, knit with a 100% buffalo down yarn and embellished with beads. The cowl drapes and folds beautifully around the neck. The yarn is a deep brown and beads are gold.

The Funnel Cowl is a quick knit in a DK weight yarn. Pick something soft and warm as it sits close to your skin. This one was knit with a merino/yak blend from my stash.

The display form is showing a turquoise blue cowl. The bottom edge of the cowl has garter stitch and pivot details that moves into stockinette with a dropped st detail. Welting and a simple textured body make up the bulk of the cowl. It is finished with eyelets and I-cord.

A thick, warm cowl, double knit so that there are two versions. This is the "light side" where the background is lighter than the patterns. The colours are burgundy tones. The edges are created with openwork stitches. Welcome to the dark side of the cowl. Beautiful in a different way.

6 feet square of knitty goodness! Purple lace center knit on the diagonal. Floral fair-isle frame. Purple and green Lace striping border. Pointy purple lace edging. Beautiful young woman, her hair is up and she is wearing a large purple shawl. She is wearing it squared with the center square folded to make a shawl collar . Life has been extremely busy. I am downsizing my home and it has been sold and a new home bought, still in the same town. In two weeks we will be moving. Also working and knitting through it all. Taking a little time to touch base and say hello.
Bright, wide stripes highlight this Summer Kerchief. The stripes move pink to cream to green to cream and back to pink. The edges are small repeating points knit at the same time as the Kerchief body. Rolling cables - just off the needles. Soft grey curves roll up the textured hat. Lions mane daisies against the fence. The bright yellows and greens contrast strongly against the weathered grey wood of the fence

Early Spring on Vancouver Island means Fawn Lilies in the wild places. These are often called Curly Lilies.

These were found at the Cassidy Canyon swim hole. A few Trilliums are starting as well!

A special gift for a special Grandson. A handmade bear (not made by me) needed a handmade vest. My grandson got a matching vest.

Knit with Patagonia Organic Merino.
A shaggy bear, with creamy, curly fur sits up straight. The bear has a well defined nose and his eyes are black and close set. His paws are a deep brown. He is wearing a beige and brown vest with a faux argyle pattern. The vest is v-necked and the arms and waist band are finished with a two by two corrugated ribbing in deep brown and turquoise. The front band is a deep brown, to match with his paws, and it closes with multi coloured buttons. A Bear with creamy, curly fur is wearing a vest is holding a matching vest in a much larger size.

One of my current WIP's! A class teaching project that is doing double duty.
1.) a Fair-isle intensive class project - colour theory, steels and finishing.
2.) I have a new great niece that I think might need a pretty little sweater and bonnet this winter.

Knit with B.C. Garn Bio-Shetland.
A wooden bowl sits beside me on the couch. The edges gleam in the light. The bowl was turned by a local crafter. It is broad and not too deep. The wood is oak from Buttertubs Marsh. It was harvested from a downed tree. The bowl holds my current project, one of them anyway. It will be a beautiful, brightly coloured fair-isle sweater, perfect for my new great niece. The are 5 colours in the sweater - all very bright - the 💙 turquoise background, 🩷 pink, 💜 purple, yellow 💛 and green! All of the colours are moving in patterned stripes around the sweater.

The pattern creates very well defined lines as the knitting is created. A cute little soft purple cap topped with a pompom. The background is garter stitch with a textured cable pattern that moves up the hat to the crown. A pinky purple little cap. It is edged with lace hearts with a reverse stockinette center against a stockinette background. A little purple hat with a textured band of lace flowers. The flowers are pink and look like daisies.

Retreating Tams - knit with sport weight Highland Wool.

The best part of a tam - the crowning glory - the top - the way the colours and decreases work together to create those amazing patterns.
Six tams crowns - each one different - different colours, different patterns. Moving clockwise from the upper right corner: 1) Bracken Tam - Predominantly white, with teal, brown and touches of pink and green. I was trying to create curves with straight lines and I was happy with the results. 2) Maiden Tam - Mostly pink and grey with charcoal. This one holds all the hearts 💕 3) Heather Tam - My favourite purples in peerie patterns. The patterns make me think of a butterfly's wings. 4) Loch Ness Tam (Nessi) - teal diamonds shading from dark to light to bright green. With pops of white and dark outlines creating an elaborate star 5) Some Like it Hot - hot colours striped with simple patterns broken by charcoal stripes. 6) Moorland Tam - browns and greens, highlighted with hot orange create an elaborate snowflake patterned crown.

Spare Squares, knit for the Buffalo Wool Co. Knit with their Tracks sock yarn, a 90/10 merino/bison blend. The main was undyed and the stripes of squares were minis. The strap is bison leather and buttons pewter buffalo.

This is the High Summer KAL shawl. It was knit with Ancient Arts Lascaux Fine. The lace body is separated from the edging by a double sided fair-isle band.

It is a 3/4 circular shawl.
