Any of various mammals of the order Primates, which consists of the lemurs, lorises, tarsiers, New World monkeys, Old World monk
Including the prompt implies high levels of something!

To be fair it's early days of LLMs, I'm sure it will bed in with time, although one scenario is that we do settle for slop, I can see that happening.

There is a wave of ransom attacks on supermarkets and their supply chains happening in the UK at present. I don't know who's doing them but the sector specificity seems to imply coordination and a goal beyond mere money.

Of course because we can't make a direct comparison without access to a suitable parallel universe it will always be a contentious subject.

While I was not happy with Mr Biden's approach to Ukraine or Gaza I believe that both will be significantly worse off with Mr Trump in charge. Still he's only been at it a few months, perhaps we should revisit the topic in a couple of years.

Well I can't speak for anyone else but I care, at least from the comfort of my seat.

That's loads! I had no idea. I read City Destroyer and maybe one other one.
I might browse the internet later and have a look for some.
Thanks for inadvertently bringing it to my attention :)

Well I by and large agree with you :)

You also have what looks like a reprint of The Spider, which I read decades ago and have fond, if vague memories of.

I think it must very much be a product of it's time and place. Your description is making me feel all nostalgic 😊

@thedicemechanic.bsky.social seems to be enjoying 2300AD!

😅
The things people do for fun. At some point in the past I had time to read and understand it (at least it felt like it at the time).

I still struggle with the idea that some people, many of whom have been adversely affected by the cold still seem wedded to the whole idea and would ideally like some more. Like an insane Oliver Twist 😒
May 19, 2025 at 8:11 AM
I'd suggest not having a referendum on whether or not you should have a cold in the first place!
Maybe consult an expert like a Dr. instead.

Is it an Asterix reference?

Makes me think of the hankachief code though. Someone saw the principal and got horribly carried away.
Also the Profanisaurus :D

I like to think so. Individually one can be as bonkers or venal as any human but as a collective they often make sense :)

Sadly no scientists but an amusing way to while away few minutes.

My perceived peer group is radio 4 and scientists. Make of that what you will!
I like my ivory tower 😊
May 18, 2025 at 8:45 PM
Evidence 😆

I'm under the impression that people go along with their perceived peer group. Evolutionarily speaking this would seem very efficient, a kind of wisdom of the crowds combined with not getting anyone's back up. Plus is saves the individual a lot of thinking, which is expensive.

It's legacy being a lot of unhappy people and no good fix within the existing mainstream economic discourse.
But I'm only an armchair economist!

At which point I'm angry with those exploiting the weakness in human cognition or failing to at least have a good stab at showing leadership.
Personality I blame a lot of the current populism on the Chicago school of economics and the enthusiastic adoption of it by Regan and Thatcher.

I used to be pretty cross with people clearly voting against both their own interests and that of the country, species and planet (at least to my mind) but from what I've absorbed over the years of listening to wonks and nerds is that my expectations are unrealistic.
May 18, 2025 at 8:32 PM
It's too abstracted for most humans, something of a flaw for liberal democracy. Wonks and geeks pay enough attention to make causal connections (sometimes even the right ones) but the bulk have better things to do, like working out how to pay the next bill.

To be fair the sales pitch for leave did include being better off, so I can see why some might be disappointed. Just a shame they can't attribute leaving the EU with becoming worse off.
As for taking back control, that's worked out well *sighs*

I liked it 30 years ago but it's an alternate future history.
Thought the French empire was refreshingly different, which was the bit we played in. Didn't spend much time in space although I do have the ship combat rules, which I really like in theory. No idea how they play in practice.

Plus the markets look over confident about the continued rule of law, and free and fair elections, although the latter are over a year away so maybe don't matter yet?
