US politics becomes much easier to process when you accept that the establishment Democrats do not want to win anything and are not there to be an opposition. That's why young progressives and less conservative Dems trying to work through the party get attacked until they compromise and conform.

Mamdani does what I've been calling constructive politics: appeals to identity as a building block of solidarity rather than a replacement for it. love to see it

In today’s episode of What Are They Thinking: “If you don’t see a hurricane coming… does it really exist?”

🚨 The Dept of Defense is shutting down its weather satellite program. No more data. No more updates. Meteorologists are scrambling—and we’re heading into peak storm season.

Brilliant timing.

Man I don’t want to get conspiratorial but a thought I can’t shake is that just like we can’t trust that people presenting themselves as law enforcement *are* law enforcement, can we trust that a violent person who’s said to have been impersonating law enforcement *isn’t* law enforcement?

“What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? … The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants.” –TJ, 1787
Two weeks ago I did a thread on how the Founding Fathers declared independence from the crown for behaving literally the same way as the Trump administration.

It's getting worse and Americans need to connect today's events to this founding document.
I just re-read the full Declaration of Independence. It's the most illuminating and depressing thing I've read in a while. Highly recommend folks give it a read.

Many — if not most — of the complaints levied against King George are indistinguishable from those brought against President Trump today.

“The equal rights of man, and the happiness of every individual are now acknoleged to be the only legitimate objects of government. Modern times have the signal advantage too of having discovered the only device by which these rights can be secured, to wit, government by the people.” –TJ, 1823.
The Trump regime is claiming tyrannical powers. Not an exaggeration, not hyperbole, not a partisan statement. The reality we now face.
If the government can pay a foreign state to imprison you and, in so doing, remove you from the protection of US law, the Constitution is worthless.

It is a genuine emergency and a guaranteed catastrophe that this man commands the entire public health apparatus of the U.S. Government.
The U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services has repeatedly claimed: “If you’re healthy, it’s almost impossible to die from an infectious disease in modern times.”

That is dangerously false.

this all really is no joke.

RIP to this guy
I found out last night that one of my neighbors died a few weeks ago.

He was forced into early retirement by DOGE & the stress of having to get all the right paperwork back to them on a short & inconsistent time line spiked his BP so much he had a stroke & fucking died.

DOGE killed my neighbor.

“We just had word that all our fellows and post doc staff are laid off effective immediately. The famous Epidemic Intelligence Service, aka the Disease Detectives, is no more. That’s 1260 staff.

They are calling this ‘Phase 1’.”

The ultimate power of any court is in its coercive orders - and a machinery to readily enforce those orders.

But once those coercive orders are defied without sanction, there is nothing left.

That’s it: game over.

Just pieces of paper with fancy words and writing.
JUST IN: A federal judge in Washington says she's concerned that the White House is still implementing the spending freeze that she and a Rhode Island judge have ordered temporarily halted.

Judge AliKhan is inclined to issue a restraining order.

We're in the midst of a thick entanglement of backlashes: against racial and gender progress in the U.S., by unreconstructed white supremacists against the end of colonial domination, and by tech plutocrats backlash against people calling them out for their unaccountable shit.
Joshua Steinman was in the 1st Trump admin. Tech billionaire Peter Thiel backs Steinman’s company, Galvinick, via Founders Fund. Yesterday, Steinman wrote, “Nobody wants to talk about this, but the # of men one wld need to take South Africa right now is embarrassingly small.” He cc’d Erik Prince. 1/
