I exist in at least three dimensions:
gentleman v grump
youthful v tired
disciplined v decadent
I remember.

Many happy returns from the wonderful land of Oz!

And isn't all the old stuff wonderful!
My lifespan covers more than 30% of white settlement in Australia, so finding things like this somewhat boggles my mind.

Indeed!
And it's only going to warm up some more as Christmas comes closer. This is the next week in Canberra.
Though to be honest, there was some snow on the mountains within an hour's drive from us only about two or three weeks ago.

I love this little tale!
Peak Carla!!

And Merry Christmas from the other side of the world, where today the temperature topped out at 34.9°C.

Totally legitimate concern.
I still have my 1978 Sydney Taxi Driver's Licence, mainly for the sake of the dubious black and white photo that scared lots of people at the time! It's hard to see the likeness to my Canberra cabbie's authority card from 40 years later. LOL

As a random observer on here, your sense of humour, humanity and hopefulness come through unchanged.
And that warms my heart.

Is that Silbury Hill at the 15 seconds mark? Great spot to visit!
There, Avebury, white horses on the sides of hills. Remarkable!

Hehehe …
Insert "who deserves it" after the 15th word.

Good for you!

I'm glad that something perfect came your way!
Sleep well tonight.

At this point he disagreed with me and said it actually was racist. I agreed and said I had problems with that. He said that we clearly have a difference of opinion, and suggested that we should not discuss the issue further.
Truth to tell, I won’t be discussing any other issues with him either!

He turned up again today so at the coffee stop I asked him for a moment in private. He is around 6’ tall and heavy-set, compared to my 5’4” and 70kg. I mentioned being speechless at something he said, I said what it was and (being as delicate as I could) I said it was bordering on being racist.

There are good people around, and it seems like you have found one of them. It's okay to tell him about the tendency to panic as well as sharing it here.
Trust can seem really scary, can't it.

Ouch!

Interesting idea.
I'm wondering where Goyder's Line sits on the map, and how it's represented.

Sending strength and peace to all who mourn his passing.

Do you know that the Canberra suburb of O'Connor has many streets named for varieties of Australian plants?
Swainsona St
Wattle St
Cassinia St
Grevillea St
Dianella St
Jarrah St
Blackbutt St
All in easy walking distance of the wonderful Tilly Devine's Cafe and Gallery.

Your army.
Your tribe.
Your familiar!

My mind went back to my father's comment about some chaps at Port Kembla Steelworks, who had just two rules:
1. If it moves, grease it, if it don't, paint it.
2. If a 2 pound hammer won't fix it, a 4 pound hammer will.
My suggestion would have been a variation on rule 2!
