Le Sabre de Canberra
@lesabrecanberra.bsky.social
I exist in at least three dimensions:
gentleman v grump
youthful v tired
disciplined v decadent
And isn't all the old stuff wonderful!
My lifespan covers more than 30% of white settlement in Australia, so finding things like this somewhat boggles my mind.

Indeed!
And it's only going to warm up some more as Christmas comes closer. This is the next week in Canberra.
Though to be honest, there was some snow on the mountains within an hour's drive from us only about two or three weeks ago.

Is that Silbury Hill at the 15 seconds mark? Great spot to visit!
There, Avebury, white horses on the sides of hills. Remarkable!

I could do this:
30 April - fly out of Sydney
1 May - land in London
2 May - Vote at Australia House in London
3 May - Watch results come in at a reasonable hour of the day!
Even the London bollards wore Labor Party t-shirts
So good!

Reminds me of this log I rode past on my way to Glastonbury back in May.

We had a visitor at the start of our ride this morning. Isn't he majestic!

75 was the maximum that day. My fastest ever was a few years later on a descent between Orange and Cargo, 81.3kph.
I ride a recumbent trike.

They look good.
I tried to capture some different flowers from the speeding Indian Pacific out on the Nullabor last year, and this was the best I managed. It's a different plant, but it was almost as noticeable and impressive.

Tulips at Floriade a couple of weeks ago.
September 28, 2025 at 4:54 AM
I took this shot of a bird in a tree from the moving Indian Pacific train on 9 August 2024 in the early morning. I like how moody it appears with the blurring from the movement and the effect of looking out through the double-glazed train window.

Great to see from the other side of the world. I did see at least one mural in the video that you showed me back in May.
More power to your all!

I dropped in to Floriade this afternoon. The way these tulips were waving in the breeze was gorgeous.

When you get a chance @bogwitch.bsky.social you might enjoy a visit to the Chateau at Chateaubriant. There's a certain vibe that seems very you!

I think I found your new car, @bogwitch.bsky.social !
July 25, 2025 at 10:18 AM
Drat! That's not on a feasible route from Portsmouth to Heathrow, is it!
I feared that might be the case, and then I woke in the night with these words already formed.
July 8, 2025 at 4:45 AM
A sight to lighten your day I hope, @bogwitch.bsky.social
I rolled into Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire yesterday and discovered a Fete Medieval in full swing. Anything here appeal to you?

Hello @sandyhorne.bsky.social I found a new take on your theme today as I was heading cross country east of Poitiers. I reached Poitiers at 11.00am and it was 36° already.

Ouch!
That's the winter I escaped, but I didn't expect this at 7.00pm tonight in the middle of France either!

Great photo lined up with the stripes in the paddock.
Your solitary trees have inspired me, so I thought of you when I took this shot a couple of days ago as I rode on a rail trail between Loudeac and Loscouët-sur-Meu in Brittany.
June 12, 2025 at 6:38 AM
Already been there!
Do you remember this at the very top of the garden behind the well? I can imagine you and the Englishman sitting there together.

Hey @bogwitch.bsky.social I rode over a crest today to be greeted by this sight and immediately thought of you. Sending this to remind you that hope springs eternal, and that you are making progress.

And I walked past this pub today and your travels came to mind again. I meant to take a photo on the way back, but wound up going a different route, so a screenshot will have to do instead.

Hey @sandyhorne.bsky.social I thought of you when I saw this tree beside the road today.
It's on a country lane heading south from Cornbury Park Estate Office towards Leafield, on the edge of the Cotswolds.

Hi @bogwitch.bsky.social
I did think you might notice those posts. I've also posted this photo and some more info on my blog about today.

I also got a chance to ride along a little bit of Ermine Street, one of the ancient Roman roads of Britain, at this point in the village of Caxton.
