it's possible the bleeding can be stopped if something goes wrong drastically and legibly enough to sway public opinion, but there is no going back to the world we knew

emotionally I'm getting there, it's all maddening

but that doesn't solve the problem, even with key leaders magic wanded away, the rot remains, the public mind which was hijacked can be so again

it may be that this project has failed, I don't think any system tolerates every actor being bad faith

maybe I'll try to put together some more coherent thoughts later, and there's still a 4th movie to watch...

- pacing (most of the character relationships feel forced, eerie tone is harmed)
- use of modern tropes & gimmicks, in dialogue, narrative and visuals (e.g. the piano scenes with kaoru)

some things that I don't think they did as well:

- music (the use of canon in d dur, and joy to the world were moving and memorable, nothing in these movies has been as much so)
- visual element changes (e.g. unit 01's arm being glowy instead of weirdly normal and human)

those things were fun and an important part of the original series, but it's missing out on the human elements, the tone & aesthetic, which made the show so compelling

a bit like george lucas with the prequels, it feels like like they didn't understand what made the series good to begin with, instead focusing on big battles, increasingly cryptic lore, & fan service

agreed re: your listed items (though I find cleaning the bidet rather annoying lol)

I'd add a decent backpack with pockets and places to hook things on to, and rug pads for comfort, keeping in place, and minimizing mechanical stress to hopefully improve longevity
