Challenging stages are this game's bonus rounds, which are encountered every three stages. Shoot all 40 enemies and you'll get a bonus. This is also where you'll hear most of the OST, which is an eclectic mix of traditional music styles, in the TG16's sweet soundfont.

Most stages are the typical fixed playfield, in line with other Galaxian/Galaga titles. However, the game has some scrolling stages as well. These stages have full formations and even bosses to fight. They also differ depending on which path you choose.

Galaga 88/90's gameplay is much like its predecessors, Galxian and Galaga. The player is fixed to left/right movement at the bottom of a playfield with a top-down persepctive. In many ways it harkons back to the early 1980's of simple arcade shooters, a possible early example of a throwback title.
