The brilliant @theasrstein.bsky.social on the elephant in the room about the NHS - facing trade offs about what *isn’t* possible when the limits of what *could be* possible are endless. At our #Lab25 fringe with @kiranstacey.bsky.social @lewisatkinson.bsky.social & @kingsfundlibrary.bsky.social

So this presents the Govt with a dilemma. Articulately put by @theasrstein.bsky.social and Sarah Woolnough here: www.nuffieldtrust.org.uk/news-item/te...

But people are not confident that money in the NHS is spent wisely - in fact just 1 in 7 do. Most people think the NHS doesn’t spend money efficiently.
April 2, 2025 at 6:44 AM
Interestingly, while Reform supporters are more likely to think too much is spent, a majority of supporters of all parties think not enough money is spent on the NHS
April 2, 2025 at 6:44 AM
There is also a lot of consensus about money - just 8% of people think too much money is spent on the NHS.

So what’s going on, beyond a widespread malaise? This year we asked a whole stack of new Qs to find out what people felt about different aspects of care.

What’s really clear is that concern about time to get care is widespread. Just 12% of people are satisfied with time to A&E.
April 2, 2025 at 6:44 AM
The fieldwork for this report took place just after the Darzi review was published, soon after the NHS was declared “broken” and as concern about corridor care in A&E was growing.

Today’s findings show particular concern with A&E - look at the blue line - dissatisfaction has soared.
April 2, 2025 at 6:44 AM
Overall NHS satisfaction is now just 21%. This is 32pp lower than during the pandemic and a staggering 49pp lower than at the record high point in 2010.

Dissatisfaction has climbed 7ppt in a year to 59%. In Wales it’s an alarming 72% - a difference that is statistically significant.

My brilliant sister, artist Harriet Merry, is holding a blind auction of her prints this week only for the Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity. Starting bids from £8 and usually they sell for a lot more - so get an early Xmas bargain.

This is very good. And articulates well why those of us involved in activities that are about appealing to the “head” forget the “heart” at our peril
